Mistakes Coaches do on Social Media

❤️ There’s a great opportunity with social media to grow your personal brand as a coach.

The best way to build your personal brand is by being yourself and sharing your knowledge and experiences with others.

👊🏻 Coaches are among the most important people in our lives. They help us become better versions of ourselves through advice or inspiration.

But many coaches make mistakes on social media that could cost them their reputation and clients. Here are three things coaches should avoid:

📌 Heading straight for sale- The social media space is a great place to network and build relationships, but it’s also crowded. With so many coaches using social media to market their businesses, it can be challenging to stand out.

Instead, focus on sharing helpful content that your audience will find valuable — not just what you want them to think about your business. You can still include your website URL or a call-to-action at the end of each post, but keep it subtle and nonintrusive (i.e., don’t use flashing graphics or popups).

📌 Not knowing whom you are speaking to When you’re not sure who you are talking to, it’s hard to know what kind of content to produce. Social media is a great way to build your audience and start conversations with potential clients. But it’s crucial that when using social media for business purposes, you’re not just talking about yourself or what you want people to buy from you — even if those things overlap.

📌 Not setting clear goals - Many coaches don’t set clear goals for themselves before they start using social media. This can lead to wasting time or sharing content that doesn’t help anyone. Understanding whom you’re talking to, why they’re coming to your site, and what they expect from you before you start posting anything is essential. Before setting up a Facebook page or Twitter account, ensure you know exactly what you want to accomplish with it.

📌 Not monitoring results- The best way to know if your approach works is by tracking your results. This will help you identify what’s working and what isn’t so you can pivot accordingly. Tracking results also allows you to compare how different approaches affect specific metrics like reach or engagement rate, which can help inform future decisions about using these platforms—using the wrong language style.

So, now that you’ve encountered these mistakes coaches should avoid on social media, will you rectify them in your coaching? Probably. The reasons behind them are apparent, after all! But beyond the obvious points here, the real value of this article may have lain in answering a question that might not have even occurred to you: why do so many people make these mistakes?
